Wolf Road Sidewalk Project

This sidewalk project is part of the City of Prospect Height’s continued initiative to improve the infrastructure throughout the community and is necessary to improve pedestrian accessibility within the City.

This project will be funded by a combination of Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) grant through the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA)’s Access to Transit program, Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) funds, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) funds, and local funds provided by the City of Prospect Heights.

Project Information

Project Location and Limits

This project will be completed along Wolf Road, from Edward Road / Metra Station to Palatine Frontage Road for a total distance of 1.21 miles in the City of Prospect Heights, Cook County.

Proposed Improvements

  • Installation of a new ADA compliant sidewalk along the east side of Wolf Road.
  • Associated curb and gutter removal and installation.
  • Hot Mix Asphalt roadway patching.
  • Driveway apron reconstruction.
  • Installation of a closed drainage system with new drainage structures.
  • Sanitary sewer manhole adjustments and reconstructions.
  • Modifications to four traffic signals including pedestrian traffic signals.
  • Sediment and erosion control measures.
  • Parkway grading and restoration, as needed.
  • Installation of new pavement markings.

What to Expect

The construction operations will likely create delays in travel, and motorists should allow extra time through the area. During working hours, two-way traffic will be maintained over one lane of pavement and be controlled with certified flaggers. Access to all homes will be maintained, whether by temporary stone ramps or permanent pavement. As with any construction project, there will occasionally be inconveniences you may experience when traveling through the area, but the City and Contractor are working together to minimize the disruptions and nuisances.

The project team thanks you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project. Motorists are urged to pay close attention to orange signs and flaggers in work zones, obey posted speed limits, avoid cell phone use, and be alert for construction workers and equipment.

Schedule

This project is scheduled to begin March 25, 2024, weather permitting, and we anticipate the project being substantially completed in early August 2024. Weather and unforeseen circumstances may adversely affect the proposed schedule.

In accordance with the City of Prospect Heights, daily working hours for the construction project are from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday. There is currently no work anticipated on Sundays or legal, observed holidays.
